Installation Tips
Why Professional Security Installation Matters: A Checklist
What good CCTV and security installation looks like: site survey, camera placement, cable protection, earthing, power backup, configuration and handover.

Good equipment needs good installation
Most security system problems come from installation rather than the equipment: cameras pointed at the wrong area, exposed cable joints that let in water, no backup power, or recorders that were never set to record properly.
What a proper installation includes
Use this checklist to judge any installer, including us.
- A site survey before quoting, to plan coverage and cable routes
- Cameras placed to identify people at entry points, not only to show general views
- Cables run in conduit or trunking, with weatherproof junction boxes outdoors
- Surge protection and proper earthing where lightning is common
- UPS or inverter backup for the recorder and network equipment
- Recording schedule, motion detection and hard drive set up and tested
- Remote viewing set up on the owner's phone
- Default passwords changed and the owner given the admin login
- A walkthrough of how to play back and export footage
After installation
Check your system regularly: make sure every camera is recording, clean lenses, check the recorder's hard drive status and keep firmware up to date. A yearly maintenance visit catches problems before you need the footage.
Common questions
Why should I change the default password on my CCTV?
Recorders with default or weak passwords can be accessed by others over the internet. Always use a strong password and keep the admin login yourself.
